Experience in the public sector (World Bank); the private sector (Mapbox Chief Scientist, Satellogic VP for Social Impact); NGOs (Director of S&T at climate change NGO “Gain”); and academia, (Ph.D. astrophysics, rocket science postdoc with NRL/JAXA/NASA).

Working experience

Independent Consultant (2017-)

Several Impact Science projects. Some projects as a continuation of previous positions, like the World Bank’s Satellite Nightlights, or Science advisor to Mapbox. Other projects include fostering entrepreneurship skills in Kakuma refugee camp, teaching workshops on Data Science in Cape Town, building the logistics software for a hazelnut company in Bhutan, or advisor on competitiveness for the UAE government.

Satellogic (2017-2019)

Vice-President, Social Impact. Responsible for strategy and projects with social and environmental benefits as primary objectives. Satellogic, based in Argentina and Spain, builds and operates High-Resolution multi- and hyper-spectral imaging Earth Observation Satellites; and offer solutions based on advanced Data Analytics. As of 2019, it has a constellation of five satellites operating in low Earth-Orbit. Currently, investor and advisor.

World Bank (2015-2017)

Data Scientist at Innovation Labs and Office of the President. Technical lead on bringing big data into operations across the Institution and clients around the World. Accelerator portfolio projects: 20+ projects, USD500MM+. Based in Washington DC. Currently, consultant to several projects.

Mapbox (2013-2015)

Chief Scientist during 10-fold growth from series A to series B investment rounds, leading their scientific work across the company, especially on remote sensing and satellite, and supporting our international clients. Mapbox is a full-service cloud-based mapping platform. Based in Washington DC and San Francisco. Currently, investor and advisor.

Global Adaptation Institute (2011-2013)

Director of Science and Technology. Visiting Scholar at the Environmental Change Initiative (University of Notre Dame). Gain is a private sector-led non-profit focused on resilience to climate change. Based in Washington DC.

US Naval Research Laboratory (2008-2010)

NASA Contractor at NRL, Research Assistant Professor from George Mason University. Space Science Division of the Naval Research Laboratory. Satellite and rocket missions. Project implementation, Calibration data analysis, and visualizations. Based in Washington DC.
